Tram in Hiroshima is the largest tram network in Japan. This 35.1km network is used by 150000 passengers a day. Frequency of trams in downtowon is few minutes. Furthermore, tram track near Kamiyacho-nishi(main interchange point at downtown) is congestioned with many tramcars in morning peak hours.
Line in western suburb is through service to suburban rail. Since 1962, passengers can travel from downtown of Hiroshima to Miyajimaguchi without transfer. Miyajimaguchi is residence area and ferry port to Miyajima(Miyajima is one of UNESCO world heritages). Not only commuters but also tourists uses trams.
The fleet of Hiroshima Electric Railway is very various. Hiroshima Electric Railway is called "動く電車博物館(Museum of running trams)". Many second-hand trams(ex- Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, Fukuoka in Japan and Hannover in German), Atomic-bombed trams(made in 1942, completely restored in 1946 - 1948), Modern low-floor articulated trams(Kinkisharyo's LRV and Siemens Combino) are running. Tram enthusiasts can enjoy the tram in Hiroshima.
Type3100 Hiroden-mae -> Miyajimaguchi
Type3100 is old tram for throught service to Miyajimaguchi. Type3100 has nose-suspension drive with electric brake(Most Japanese electric railcar with nose-suspension driveis not equipped the electric brake). We can listen the noise from mortor when starting and stopping.

吊り掛けかつ電制つきという個性派だったのが3100形です。本録音の聴きどころはもちろん減速時のモーター音で、広電のみならず全国的に見ても電制使 用の吊り掛け駆動車は貴重な存在でした。もちろん加速時の音も良いもので、とくに宮島線内において交通信号から解放され、のびのびとした高速運転を行う部 分はいい音を聞かせてくれます。 録音当時は平日朝夕のみ走っていたため、運用はほぼ固定されていたものの、それでも収録には苦労させられました。録音は夕方の広電前発宮島口行で、ラッ シュ時のみ運行される特殊な運行系統です。
