Toyohashi Railway has 5.4km tram line in Toyahashi city. Aichi prefecture (region around Toyohashi) is motorized society. However, city government supports tramway. It should be noted that tram was extended in 1982 (Before late 1970s, tram was thought that outdated transport in Japan). After 1982, some positive plans were put effect by backup of city government. For example, tram stop of Toyohashi station was moved to nearby position of station in 1998. In 2008, low-floor tram was launched.
On the other hand, tram in Toyohashi has some interesting point from tram enthusiast. There is 11m(!) radius curve near Ihara stop. It's the sharpest curve in Japanese railway. Considering short network length, kind of rolling stock is various(as of 2012, 6 types).
Type MO780 Ekimae(Toyohashi station) -> Undo-koen-mae
